Katy Perry and Russell Brand announced they were splitting up just a week and a half ago. After all of the rumors that had been going around that things weren’t going well between them, Russell finally pulled the plug on December 30th. Well apparently, Katy is pretty upset with her breakup and is going to take some time for herself. She was set to appear and perform at the People’s Choice Awards tomorrow night, but last night she announced she would not attend via her Twitter.
“Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS”
This would have been her first public appearance since the divorce announcement. In addition to skipping out on what was sure to be an amazing performance, the singer will also miss her chance to accept some hardware. She is nominated for seven awards, which include Favorite TV Guest Star, Favorite Animated Movie Voice, Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Song of the Year, Favorite Pop Artist, Favorite Music Video, and Favorite Tour Headliner. Katy didn’t tell her followers why she backed out two days before the show, but I think we can all figure it out. She probably doesn’t want to deal with her divorce or the paparazzi on a night where she should be happy. I can’t blame her either.
So, will her soon-to-be ex-husband be making an appearance at the People’s Choice Awards? Don’t count on it. Russell was reportedly uninvited from the awards show after Katy confirmed she would be appearing.
